Our Board of “Champions”

We have created a Board of “Champions”, representing Woodmont women golfers of all ages and levels. Our board is working to champion this initiative by connecting their friends with The Umbrella Club and generating new ideas.

I played tennis and many sports as kid.  I always thought golf was boring, so other than hitting golf balls on a hill at camp, I wasn’t interested. In my early 30’s, and now belonging to a country club, a few friends started to play golf, so I decided I wanted a new challenge too.  Back then my success was based on how many balls I lost per round :)) That tight, treelined course was tough on a beginner!

I love learning about anything golf related and I’m always working on my game to improve it.    What I didn’t know then, was how this game would change my life;  I’m appreciative of all the gifts that golf has given me!

I learned the game of golf from my dad while growing up in California. It was a great activity to share with him. I have made many special friends through golf, enjoy the process of learning about golf and playing for Woodmont's golf team.

I took up golf to play with my dad “The Judge” after his retirement from the Montgomery County Circuit Court. I wanted to spend time with my awesome dad, but knew that I had to find something that he liked—golf was more appealing than watching sports on TV with him. I got hooked, made many wonderful golf friends, joined golf teams, and you can still find me on the course every Sunday morning with my dad.

I started playing golf at the age of 9 with my dad and grandma. To this day, at the age of 93, my grandma still quotes her motto “hands high, let it fly” and tells her to never beat her husband. After several years away from the game to give birth to my daughter Presley and son Avi, I am back on the course grinding.

I started golfing when I was a kid - maybe 9 or 10 years old - when my parents would take me and my sister out for a couple of holes right before dinner. Turns out, it was a natural fit for me, but I didn't really play much the rest of my childhood, until I dated a golfer in college. I thought everyone took golf as seriously as the golf team did - and I thought everyone was a scratch golfer. It wasn't until I started playing again with my parents and friends on the weekends in my 20s that I realized that golf is about having fun, no matter your ability. I haven't stopped golfing since and enjoy being on the course as often as I can with friends and family.

My Mother took up golf when I was fifteen and I decided to try the sport since I played all others in high school. I did not play much until I met Herb and took up the game again. Golf has been my only sport since I had to give up tennis and it has been a”life savor since the pandemic.

Amanda Levy

I started hitting a golf club when David first started a junior program at Woodmont. I liked hanging out with the older kids and spending time with my sisters, who were also learning. I occasionally played, but I focused on competitive swimming until 8th grade. That Spring, I remember driving to the golf course at every odd hour to fit in time on the range around my 7-days-a-week swim schedule. Eventually, there were so many times that I was complaining about leaving golf because the sun was setting, or I was arriving late to swimming because I wanted to finish 9 holes. One day, I realized that I should follow what I truly loved, so I swamped my time commitments. I started playing golf everyday and fitting in swimming around it. I came to cherish my time at Woodmont so much that in the Spring of my high school sophomore year, I quit swimming and decided to pursue getting recruited for college golf.

Cheryl Slane

I took up golf when we joined Woodmont Country Club. I wanted to be able to play with my husband, Kevin. I absolutely love it even though I needs A LOT more practice. Also lunch with my golf friends after lessons makes the whole day more fun.

Barbara Stutz

I grew up in South Florida and my family were all avid golfers - except me. I wasn't interested until I was an adult and realized that, not only was golf fun, it was a wonderful opportunity to meet new people and create lasting friendships. It's done all that and more. I'm friendly with so many people as a result of participating in the wonderful golf programs that Woodmont offers.
